Sailup vs Hubtel.

Sailup charges a flat ₵0.02 per SMS to every Ghanaian network. Hubtel prices each route separately: AirtelTigo at ₵0.0151, MTN at ₵0.0201, and Telecel at ₵0.0303. Hubtel is cheaper on AirtelTigo-heavy traffic and more expensive on Telecel, so for a mixed list Sailup has the lower blended rate.

Per-network route pricing: each carrier has its own rate, so your blended cost depends on your subscriber mix. Sailup takes the other approach: one rate, to every network, from the first message.

Which one you should pick.

No provider in Ghana wins on every axis, and this one does not either.

Choose Hubtel when

  • Your recipients are overwhelmingly on AirtelTigo. At ₵0.0151 that route undercuts a flat ₵0.02 by about 25%, and nothing we price can match it on that traffic.
  • You already run storefronts, payments, or order flows on Hubtel and want messaging on the same invoice.

Choose Sailup when

  • Your list is mixed across MTN, Telecel, and AirtelTigo. Telecel at ₵0.0303 costs about 50% more than the Sailup rate, which pulls your blended cost above ₵0.02.
  • You want to forecast spend without modelling your subscriber mix. Flat pricing means your bill is message count times the rate, in month one and in year three.
  • You do not know your network split, which is most teams until they have sent enough traffic to measure it.

Sailup vs Hubtel, answered.

The questions people actually ask before they switch.

Is Sailup cheaper than Hubtel?

It depends on your network mix. Hubtel's AirtelTigo route costs ₵0.0151, below Sailup's flat ₵0.02. Its MTN route, at ₵0.0201, is within half a percent of ours, and Telecel costs ₵0.0303. For traffic spread across all three networks, ₵0.02 flat is the lower blended cost. For AirtelTigo-dominant traffic, Hubtel is cheaper. Rates checked 31 August 2026.

Why does Hubtel charge different rates per network?

Hubtel passes through the cost of each carrier route, so the price reflects what that network charges. It rewards senders who know their subscriber mix and lean toward the cheap routes, and penalises those whose traffic lands on Telecel. Flat pricing takes the opposite trade: one rate that you never have to model.

How do I work out which is cheaper for my traffic?

Take your last month of sends, split them by network, and multiply each count by Hubtel's route rate. Compare that total against your message count times ₵0.02. As a rule of thumb, Hubtel's MTN rate is within half a percent of ours, so the outcome turns on the other two networks. Hubtel wins while your AirtelTigo volume is more than about twice your Telecel volume, and loses below that.
